One: engineers are different.
Many people come with their mouths open: Allegro factory engineers are piecework, and multilayer board engineers are paid monthly. Of course, not only that.
Allegro factory has to receive orders of at least one thousand models every day. As a customized product, the drawings of each order need to be optimized and processed by engineers into the processing materials used by the factory. However, Allegro factory really needs to raise hundreds of engineers for so many drawings every day? Of course not! 90% of the orders are sent out to outside engineers. Even the largest allegro factory in the industry has less than 30 engineers, and their main job is to assemble the materials prepared by outside engineers on a big work board for production and processing. The income of these outsourcing engineers is piecework, and the processing of one document ranges from 2 yuan to 20 yuan. It is doomed that the engineering data processing is a huge defect of Allegro Factory, and there are uncertain factors!
However, their engineers in professional multi-layer board factories are quite different. On the one hand, their work experience and ability requirements are very high, and their work mode and salary input are fixed monthly salary+performance system, which optimizes the quality of engineering treatment from the management point of view!
Two: different processes.
1. One of the biggest costs in PCB processing is copper plating on holes, referred to as copper deposition. But in fact, most Allegro factories use conductive adhesive process (similar to plating a conductive film on a via). This process has the advantages of high speed and low cost. But the shortcomings are fatal: the hole copper is thin, the hole wall roughness is large, and it is unreliable for long-term use! If you don’t believe me, you can ask them to attach a slice report to you. Few Allegro factories are willing to provide it! International IPC standard requires that the thickness of hole copper should be more than 18um, which is usually not reached by allegro factory, while the average hole copper of professional multi-layer plate factory is generally more than 20UM, and the highest one is 28um.
2. Impedance. Many customers say Allegro Factory can also make impedance boards, but Xiaobian only hears ghosts, but has never seen them! Single-end impedance may be fine. Do they dare to do differential impedance? To control the impedance well, not only the engineering treatment is good, but more importantly, the control of circuit accuracy and the control of pressing and laminating are very important. But for allegro factory, which produces many kinds of models together, can they meet these requirements?
3. Processing of via holes. Fast board factory has only made hole-opening box and hole-capping oil, but they have not made hole-plugging oil. Why? Because they can’t plug oil in allegro mode, and plug oil for one more solder resist process, the cost is high! But if your board has BGA, do you think it’s reliable if the vias in BGA area are not plugged with oil? (Knowledgeable engineers will emphasize oil plugging, otherwise BGA will be faked and soldered here, and you won’t find out at all! )
Three: different materials.
Here, I won’t take the plate as an example. You only need to ask the salesman of Allegro Factory: What is the inner copper thickness of your 4th and 6th layers? Actually, you don’t have to ask, all these Allegro factories default to 0.5 oz, and this will not be reflected in the whole ordering process, let alone verified with customers. Because they are a variety of combined orders, they are destined to save money, and unity is the king!
