The ASM Radial Feeder LB-RD01 with Lead Forming is suitable for ASM SIPLACE X and SX series platforms equipped with CP14 or CPP placement heads. This feeder is used to transport radially led components—components with both leads extending from the same side of the component body, perpendicular to the tape surface. Integrated Lead Cutting and Forming
Working Principle: Radial components are fed in a strip form, with leads passing straight through the carrier. A sprocket drive moves the strip until the component reaches the shearing station—11 mm from the center line of the feed hole. A hardened tool steel blade cuts two leads at once. The component falls into a programmable forming die, which clamps the component body and bends the two leads to a set angle (0-90°). The die performs CNC machining according to the component contour; the bending angle and depth are stored digitally and automatically loaded when the component is inserted into the die. Output: One component every 3-5 seconds. Scrap rate due to cutting and bending angle errors: 3-5%. The LB-RD01 integrates these three steps into a single feeder, processing each component in 0.8 seconds with a scrap rate of less than 0.5%. Reduces the number of operator positions. Requires no benchtop equipment.
Electro-Motor Precision Indexing
Mechanism: A digitally controlled stepper motor drives the belt sprocket—instead of a pneumatic pawl or spring-loaded mechanical indexer. Each cycle precisely advances one component spacing, with electronic braking eliminating overshoot. The motor controller stores feeding parameters, adjusting acceleration, speed, and deceleration based on component weight and belt stiffness. Optical sensors verify the presence of components at the shearing station; missing or damaged components trigger automatic skipping without recirculating the blade. The motor is a sealed unit—requiring no belts, lubrication, or encoder calibration. The LB-RD01’s stepper motor maintains a pick-up success rate of over 99% by eliminating position drift. For a production line operating 4,500 placement points in 8-hour shifts, this translates to 15-25 minutes of production time savings per day. This sealed motor requires no maintenance during its rated 10,000-hour service life.
